An element of the game I had almost not thought of until about 2 months ago, the music is very important.
I'm hoping at least one person here is competent with music programs to make or edit music, and maybe assist with the Pokemon sounds.
Your application should include at least 2 songs/beats/anything with sound, and how often you check the site, are available for contact, and how much time you have to work on the music on your free time.

Just so no one gets the impression that I'm gone or anything (although I doubt at this point my absense would be much of an impedement on the game's process), I'm posting to let you know that a friend of mine is helping me write some things. An application should be up after not to long.

Well, I guess this would be my application. I check the site usually at least once a day. I'm available for contact at pretty much anytime between 1:00 PM and midnight EST, through either my aim (leafgreen386), or email (which I'm not always the quickest to respond to, at leafgreen386@aim.com). I should have a couple hours every day to work on music this summer; my life is sorta boring. That'll probably get reduced to just weekends once the school year starts up again, though. Now, the important part, the songs (they're MIDIs; click to d/l): Ice Palace - Since this is going to be a video game, I figured I should work on making everything loop, which is why all three pieces here will repeat themselves after a certain point. This particular song is made of two 1:50 loops, although I made a slight change at the end of the second loop so that it actually sounds like an ending. The title of the song should be explanation in and of itself what I was thinking when I made this. Sorrow - Think of a flourishing town that has an upbeat feel and attitude among its people. It's been a while since you've been to this town. Now think of how you would feel when you return to that same town and it's just been raided by a group of bandits, houses were burned, and people killed. That's basically the situation I was thinking of when I made this song. There are two 1:30 loops. Rough Draft Boss Music - Well, this is a pokemon game, isn't it? I figured I should try my hand at a remix, since if I get accepted I'll probably end up doing several for the project, after all. This is a remix of the original r/b battle theme, and is actually the first remix I've done. The practice has definitely given me some nice ideas for future ones. Anyway, this song has a 12 second intro, with two 1:18 loops.

Thanks guys. I'm guessing that means I'm in? I can start composing right away, but I would need to know what some of the locations of the game are going to be, and (if it's not obvious) what kind of action is going to be going on there (ie. a rural town where nothing is going on would have very different music from a large city where you're fighting some gang).

Most definitely going to have a desert area, so I guess that could be the first.

You win hard. o:
Once school's out of the way, I'm gonna try and write some MIDIs myself. What do you make them with? I've been using Noteworthy Composer but the way it doesn't process slurs and such when opening files has been bothering me.

Hm... I guess I should've worded my example differently. An active city that there's lots to do would have a very different sound than another (also large) city where people keep indoors because of gangs.
So, for the desert, are you going to be meeting average people there (if you'll be meeting people there at all), or will there be a deeper plot? If you could give me even a one word description of how you want the piece to sound, that would be great (ie. dark, light-hearted, epic/grand, busy, peaceful, etc). I just need something to go off of, because otherwise there's a chance that the piece won't really go well with the location/event.
And something I just thought of: Do you plan on having the player be there a lot? I'll try to make longer loops for places where the player will be in for a while (like 1:30), but places that are just a quick stop would probably only need like a 0:50-1:00 loop.
Heh. I use anvil studio. It's the first free one I could find. It doesn't seem to process slurs right, either (considering slurs are under the "notations" section, it's not surprising). Ties are fine, though, as is pretty much everything else.

No no no, I didn't mean the first example you made, lol. I meant the next (first) mix you make should be for a desert area. The ones you made already are fine for what you intend them for

?_?
I wasn't talking about the MIDIs I already made.
That's what I was talking about... I probably should've been more clear, but all I was saying for that was that I needed some kind of feeling to associate with that area. I mean, if it's going to be a part of the game that you just walk through and nothing particularly evil happens, having a dark sounding piece would not suit it well. But if it's going to be some mysterious area, the music should reflect that.

Uh... right. Anyway, I made a sort of "test" theme for a desert. It doesn't feel pokemon-ish enough to me, though. Again, the reason I was hesitant to get started was because I needed to know what kind of stuff was gonna happen there. Like, it might sound too mysterious if the desert is a relatively unimportant area, or it might not sound dark enough if there are criminals inhabiting it, etc. I guess that'll have to be decided when more is done with the plot/level design. While I'm at, I suppose I should also ask what kind of feel in general is trying to be projected in this game. Would you want a bright, cheery type of feel with the gba pokemon games, or something darker, like colosseum/xd? Or something completely different, that hasn't been done before on a pokemon game? This information would help me greatly for making pretty much any song for this project. Anyway, here it is: www.divshare.com/download/980272-855I did a little research on how long the average length of loops is in video games (more specifically, pokemon games). Most hang around 40-50 seconds, apparently, so since this is just a test song, anyway, the above has only a 44 second loop (which loops three times, although on the third one I cut off the last measure so it sounds like it has an ending).

The... are they Choir Aahs? I can't quite tell. Anyways, they don't seem as fit the desert idea as well as the other sounds. Aside from that, I think it's a pretty great track, probably my favorite of the four you've posted.

dude that's just fucking great. also, as you can see, you've been promoted. and because I'm not musically inclined, I'm going to leave you completely in charge of the music department. Once we get a little more organized, deciding what areas need music shouldn't be hard to do. Thanks ^_________^

Oh, WOW! Thank you. Aren't ALL areas going to have music? Btw, I did some messing around with instruments, and turns out my gut was right. I replaced the choir aahs with pizzicato strings. If you wanna listen to the revised version, click here.

Can I bother you on AIM sometime and have you help me with some of my music?

Sure. If you read the times I'm available for contact, you'd see I'm not very busy during the summer (although that info lies a little since I do actually do stuff every couple of days; I just never know what days those are going to be until less than a week in advance (smash tournies being the exception) =P), and things get boring kinda easily. So I don't mind people IMing me at all.

Wow. A 2:40 loop. *Takes note to make big battles have long loops*
lol
Alright, that got me pumped to make a battle theme. Listening to my other one, I don't really like it that much (although I didn't think it was fantastic then, either).
