It all looks pretty disappointing to me. The graphics just have a bit of a different style to them, and are at an angle in an attempt to make it look 3D. Battles look EXACTLY the same. The new traits are either: -useless -broken -just f-ing stupid The new physical/special attack system just unnecessarily complicates things. The new pokemon are soo predictable - you've got your evolves-twice normal bird(Pidgey, Hoothoot, Tailow), the evolves-once normal mammal (Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon), WAY too many legendaries, MORE FUCKING BABIES, fat evos (I swear there are at least a dozen evos which are just fat versions of their devolved selves) Worth getting a DS for? I think not. You know the only bird you listed there that actually evolves twice is Pidgey, right? And besides, shouldn't you expect this kind of crap after 3 games before it? I mean, at least their normal mammal has a water sub-typing this time, and the bug isn't a 2-staged worm. Also, they have the electric thing as a beginning Pokemon, too. I actually own and have played through the game, and I must say, it's definitely worth it. Over 400 Pokemon are catchable in it (the only ones that aren't are the starters and legendaries). indeed. And the special/physical swap helped so many Pokemon that it's uncanny. Any ones that it didn't help, got different attacks to replace the old ones (Gyarados lost HP Flying but got a physical Waterfall, Alakazam lost the punches but gained Shadow Ball, Focus Bomb, and Energy Ball). Flareon still sucks, though. So many Pokemon became at least reasonably useful that it truely is uncanny. I don't think D/P is given enough credit around here.

You know the only bird you listed there that actually evolves twice is Pidgey, right? Haha, whoops. Well, you get the idea - none of them are very useful. And besides, shouldn't you expect this kind of crap after 3 games before it? I mean, at least their normal mammal has a water sub-typing this time, and the bug isn't a 2-staged worm. Also, they have the electric thing as a beginning Pokemon, too. Of course I expect it, but I was really hoping for more with this generation, especially considering how long we've been made to wait. But in the end the innovators at Nintendo refuse to touch the sacred pokemon formula, and I find that frustrating. I actually own and have played through the game, and I must say, it's definitely worth it. Over 400 Pokemon are catchable in it (the only ones that aren't are the starters and legendaries). indeed. I'm sure its as fun as any other pokemon game; I'm just not convinced its a worthwhile purpose for those who have played earlier games. I guess it works - I honestly don't know enough about which moves are physical and which are special than I should. *shrug*

If you're going to blame someone for not innovating, blame Game Freak and not Nintendo; Nintendo just publishes/distributes or something. The games are entirely made by Game Freak, and they're the ones that are in charge of upholding the sacred Pokemon formula :/ I wanted a new starter triangle, dangit.
But anyway, yeah, the games are awesome. If you wait long enough, maybe an emulator will be up and running for it, and you can "try before you buy" or something XD

I believe early D/P will have a diverse metagame but over time people will weed out standards.
